The President is calling on Congress to put politics aside and raise the debt ceiling so the U.S. doesn't default on its obligations for the first time in our history.
But an ideological faction of House Republicans has been making extreme demands like ending Medicare as we know it, gutting Social Security, and rejecting any compromises that might make millionaires or big corporations pay their fair share to get our debt under control -- effectively holding our economy hostage.
